Hans Williams is a 21 year old independent singer-songwriter whose wistful, stirring alt-pop is infused with the mindscapes of his native Vermont.
First releasing music in third grade when he would hand out CDs after school, Hans fell in love with songwriting as a means of expression. After uploading a couple of songs on Spotify in high school, Hans quickly amassed over a million streams before graduating.
In 2020, Hans debuted "Body on My Shoulders," reflecting on his experience as a first responder to a floormate’s suicide in the first few days of freshmen year at Tulane University. The song has since become a therapeutic anthem for the Tulane community, and beyond.
Hans released “All Is Well” in February 2022 as a follow up to “Body On My Shoulders.” Hans says of the release, “writing ‘All Is Well’ felt like a natural extension to writing ‘Body on My Shoulders.’ While releasing ‘Body on My Shoulders’ brought a great deal of relief, I still thought about my experience more than seemed normal and wasn’t always willing to open up to my immediate community. Since many of my friends had the same experience it was hard to start those conversations. I felt like I was opening up someone else’s wound at the expense of closing my own.”
Hans’ latest release, “Checklist” (May 2022), reflects the free-flowing confidence Hans has developed in himself and his music, currently sitting at over 1.5 million streams and counting.
Currently a rising senior studying Marketing and Music Science & Technology at Tulane, Williams continues to grow his fanbase around the historic New Orleans scene, performing with BabyJake at House of Blues, and his own headline show at Tipitina’s - and beyond. His 2023 summer tour launches at the Levitt Pavilion and includes The Peach Music Festival.
Often collaborating with his childhood friend, producer Phin Choukas, Hans continues to experiment with indie, folk, and alternative sounds and is excited to share his development as an artist and an individual with each new song.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month
A portion of the proceeds from the release of ‘Body on My Shoulders’ were donated to the JED Foundation. JED is a nonprofit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults, giving them the skills and support they need to thrive today and tomorrow.
